Madrid, Spain Trip pt 2 (Segovia & Toledo)

Two mid evil towns on a tourist bus day trip from Madrid. The first town we visited was Segovia, about an hour north of the capital. Known for its 1000 year old Roman aqueduct and its Alcazar aka the castle to have inspired the Snow White Castle. The town itself is gorgeous, the buildings are beautifully preserved and span many architectural eras. Now it is a classic tourist town so expect all that entails the crowds, wait time and prices. Other than that it’s still a nice place to walk around and the castle is pretty spectacular. One of the better European castles I’ve been too. Segovia is also known for one other thing the suckling pig. Being a big foodie this was a must do, we found a restaurant and they were able to accommodate our time restrictions. The pig was amazing. The second town on our trip was Toledo, about an hour south of the capital. The former capital of Spain, Toledo is mostly known for its sword smithing and for its world famous mazapan confections. The old part of the city itself sits on top of a hill, thankfully they’ve installed escalators to get to the top. The town is still hilly once at the top though so be prepared to walk. It’s constant hills and narrow stairways. Other than that and the normal tourist traps Toledo is definitely cool to walk around in and soak up the culture. We ended up soaking up some culture at an Irish bar at the edge of the city lol. We went through Trip Advisor to book our trip. Segovia I would do by itself, there’s a lot to see and eat. Toledo I would do with another town for sure maybe Avila, your done in about 2 1/2 hrs. Whatever choice you make it’s always the right one when you take the time to leave the city and explore the countryside. And exploring the ancient Spanish countryside was an incredible experience, I can’t wait to do it again. Hasta Luego Espana.
